Tiger I, Part 1

box art

It's time for a new model. This time it's the german Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger I" tank in 1/35 scale from Tamiya.

Box art depicts Tank No. 332, 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion, 1943.

About the kit

It is a detailed model, some parts are very tiny. It comes with rubber tracks, that look decent. You can buy extra plastic tracks, but I chose the original rubber tracks.

This kit has no photo etch parts, like some of the other kits from Tamiya.

It can be assembled in different configurations but I am going to build and paint it pretty much like it's pictured on the box.

Assembly

The instructions are very good and easy to follow. Using my trusted plastic runner stand to keep the build organized.

The trickiest part of the build was fitting the tracks, to make them lie ontop of the wheels. I used superglue for this, and the nozzle of the superglue bottle was not small enough. I made a mess, but fixed it and it looks good.

The air filtering system and exhaust looks pretty cool, and include some canvas tubing that you have to cut to length. I used a lighter to prevent fraying, but the instructions said you could paint the tubing before cutting, good tip that I will try next time :)

I did not take pictures of all the steps, because I got carried away when building.

The next step will be painting, stay tuned for that :)
